What Is Developmental Dyscalculia? Key Features and Developmental Changes
This talk presents some insights from a project that is aimed at developing a dyscalculia screening instrument for all levels of education. In addition to investigating the cognitive characteristics of dyscalculia, and developmental changes in profiles, this project has raised many interesting questions, for example, related to the heterogeneity of dyscalculia, the role of environmental factors, and to what extent dyscalculia can be considered to “just” represent the low end of the mathematics ability continuum. Beyond some conceptual and methodological issues, the talk will also give insight into the journey of developing the measures that are included in the screener. The session will consist of a 40-minute presentation, followed by some audience polls relating to the topics discussed, and a Q&A.
